Childs Frick (1883-1965),\u00a0son of Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick,\u00a0led an expedition to Abyssinia and British East Africa in 1911-12 to collect mammals for Carnegie Museum of Natural History. \u00a0Accompanying Frick was renowned ornithologist Edgar Mearns (1856-1916), who collected birds for the Smithsonian Institution. \u00a0The group collected extensively through\u00a0what is now Ethiopia and Kenya. \u00a0This map outlines the route taken by the two explorers, and highlights of the unique and interesting collections along the way.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/mammals.carnegiemnh.org\/childs-frick-abyssinian-expedition\/\" target=\"_blank\">project&#8217;s website<\/a> with more information on the journey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In conjunction with the CMNH Section of Mammals, the GIS Lab has produced the Childs Frick African Expedition web map.
